I’m looking to get a Pilates ball to use as a chair at my computer desk. I’m rather tall at 6’4″ have a 36″ inseam and weigh 260. The 75cm I’ve seen at the local $Mart seems too small, and have not found any balls in person larger than that size making it difficult to gauge what size to order. Thanks in advance.
How many times have you dreamed of a tighter, flatter stomach? How many sit-ups have you done in your lifetime? Are you ready to try something new? Pilates training sessions focus a great deal on the muscles surrounding the abdominal area. And since the program works deeply into the core muscles of the body, the result are longer, tighter muscles and a leaner, flatter you. If other exercises have not given you the results you are looking for, Pilates for abs might be worth a try.
Getting Started with Pilates for Abs
The good news about Pilates for your abs is that mat classes can be easy to find and fairly economical. There is also a host of good videos and DVD’s that can teach you the basic principles of Pilates and get you started on a program. Many of the Pilates exercises for abs can be done with basic mat exercises. The key to this program is to focus on quality of movements instead of quantity of repetitions. So instead of 50 sit-ups in a routine, you may only do a dozen repetitions of particular exercises. While it may seem that you are not working these muscles as hard, rest assured that the work you are doing is more precise and hitting deeper muscles than many other exercises you might have tried in the past.
Pilates Equipment for Abs
If you would like to intensify your workout for maximum results, resistance bands or a Pilates ball can add exercises to your regimen to keep it interesting. The Pilates ball specifically will work your abs with Pilates exercises, as well as improve your balance, coordination and concentration. The Pilates ball is a mainstay at most studios and fitness centers, and can be purchased for home use for around $30. It comes in three sizes to accommodate the size of the users.
Pilates bands can add resistance to some of the mat exercises that you might already be doing to intensify the effects of those motions as well. These bands come in two different resistance strengths, and can be purchased for $5- 10. The great thing about the resistance bands is that they are versatile and completely portable, so you can take them with you anywhere to keep up on your workouts.
Besides the improvement you will see in how your abs look, stronger abdominal muscles also provide better support for the lower back. That can mean less aches and pains from lifting, carrying and even sitting in front of your computer. So when do you want to start seeing leaner abs on your own body? Give Pilates for abs a go, and see where the results lead you.
Suck in that tummy! Exercises for good posture
Good upright posture will minimise excessive strain on your muscles and joints, optimise breathing and circulation and help keep the skeletal system strong and in alignment.
There are a number of different things you can do which will help your back pain and one of them may have to do with the way that you are sitting on a regular basis. As a result of the work that we do, many of us find that we are sitting in computer chairs for long periods of time throughout the day. This can cause a number of different problems, back pain being one of them. In order for you to overcome this problem with back pain you need to adjust the way that you are sitting.
One way that you can do this is by getting an ergonomic chair but they tend to be rather expensive. If it is within your reach financially, this type of chair can generally help you with your back pain almost immediately by putting your spine into proper alignment. If you do not have the ability to get an ergonomic chair you might want to consider making a chair of your own and using it regularly. This chair will cost about $15 and is available at many department stores in the exercise section. It is a Pilates ball and they can do amazing things for your back.
Sitting on a Pilates ball whenever you’re working at the computer is an excellent way for you to get your back into shape. First of all, it is going to force you to sit properly and to adjust your posture so that you are not slouching, putting your spine into an unnatural curve. Secondly, it is going to build up your core as you maintain your balance on the Pilates ball throughout the day. Of course, you’re going to want to work your way into using the ball and you certainly would not want to do it more than 10 or 15 minutes at a time whenever you first start out. Within just a few weeks, however, you will be able to do it for an entire day.
Sitting on a Pilates ball at your desk is an excellent way for you to not only overcome back problems but to strengthen the muscles of the core of your body to the point where you may be able to avoid them in the future. It’s an inexpensive option that can help you to be healthy in an amazing way.
